CDOT to Resume I-70 and Chambers Road Intersection Traffic Signal Replacement Project This Week

Project Overview Starting Tuesday, Jan. 16, the Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor partner, WL Contractor, will resume the traffic replacement project at the intersection of Interstate 70 and Chambers Road, in Aurora. Work on this project consists of removing the existing traffic signals in the north ramps of the intersection and installing new ones. All work is expected to be completed by late spring 2018.

Other elements of the project include curb ramp replacement with ADA-compliant ramps (American with Disabilities Act), signing and striping. The project was suspended in late 2017 due to design changes and material lead times. This $1.1 million project will improve the safety of both motorists and pedestrians as traffic in the region grows. Project Schedule and Information Work will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, and is expected to last until late spring 2018. Normal working hours will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with lane closures from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. In special cases these hours may be extended. Motorists should be prepared for right-lane closures and lane shifts during construction hours. Intermittent nighttime work and temporary traffic stops are possible when crews remove and replace the mast arms.

All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
